FAQs
- Q: What is commercial viability?
A: Does it have a sound that would make consumers want to buy it and make churches and/or worship leaders want to perform the song?
- Q: Why is there an entry fee?
A: The entry fee is used to offset some of the administrative costs of putting on a contest and publishing and recording.
- Q: Is there an age requirement?
A: Yes. You must be at least 13 years of age to enter the competition. There is no upper age limit.
- Q: As of what date, would a contestant have to be age 13?
A: November 1, 2005?
- Q: What is included in the prize of my song being selected?
A: The winners will have their songs recorded on a ‘Worship Hymn – Around the World’ album; this project will be distributed to Christian Bookstores across the country through New Day Distributors. The song will also be published by Mission Group Music, and 4 Charts will be created for the song, as well as mp3 tracks, and for it being placed in the CCLI catalog.
- Q: Can we enter using a mini-disc or video entry?
A: No. However, MP3 uploads are acceptable. Visit www.worshiphymns.com for exact instructions.
- Q: What do you mean by industry professionals?
A: These individuals consist of record producers, worship leaders, A&R directors, and professional musicians.
- Q: Is there a residence requirement?
A: No. This contest is open worldwide.
- Q: Does the demo have to be recorded in a professional studio?
A: No. It does not have to be professionally recorded, but it is advisable to record in a room with good acoustics, free of distractions, or background noises, and to send in a good clear recording. It can even be ‘live’ worship – just as long as it is audible. Remember, that the CD will be what the judges have to discern the song, although they are not expecting professional recordings they do need to be able to hear clearly. If you burn your own CD on a personal computer, please try it on various CD players to make sure it works.
- Q: Do I get my demo back?
A: No demos or photos will be returned. Please do not send your only copy of an original song, or of a beloved photo.
- Q: Will I be notified if my song does not proceed?
A: All entrants will be notified by mail whether or not their songs qualify.
- Q: What I should write on the line asking for my "Local Christian Retailer"?
A: Please list your favorite Christian bookstore(s) in your area that you most frequently visit.
- Q: Can we enter more than one song for each category?
A: No, you may only enter one song per category. That means a maximum of 2 hymns – 1 re-written and 1 re-arranged. Each one will constitute a separate entry.
- Q: I'm having trouble with the online entry process. Can I get an entry form to fill out and send in?
A: Try downloading this registration form. If you cannot get this one, email your mailing address to billing@worshiphymns.com or call (480) 734-8324 and we will mail you a hard copy.
